We’re constantly being told to save the bees – and for good reason, too. These buzzy critters help keep our planet green, pollinate plants, fill farms with crops, and basically just keep our world alive. The loss of bees could be pretty devastating, indeed. However, the Netherlands is working hard on a new incentive to help save the bees… Bee bus stops!
Lots Of Bees
It’s thought that there are around 358 bee species that have called the Netherlands their home, but there’s a big problem. Over half of them are already considered endangered and have been put on something called the Red List. However, officials in the Netherlands realized there was a big problem and decided to put a plan into action.
Bee Bus Stops
Officials in the Netherlands came up with an ingenious idea to help the bee population thrive and it all started with some bus stops. Now, there are 316 bee bus stops dotted around the city of Utrecht, designed to encourage pollinate by both honeybees and bumblebees. Over 300 regular bus stops have had their rooftops turned into lush patches of greenery, that the bees will love.
Is It Enough?
Of course, this is just one little step toward solving a big problem. However, there is still a lot to be done if we truly want to help save the bees. More countries could definitely benefit from these bee bus stops, which also capture fine dust to help prevent pollution, and store rainwater. They really are green bus stops! If you want to do more to help the bees yourself, there are plenty of initiatives that are raising funds. You can also plant more wildflowers and plants that bees like in your backyard. Every little helps!
Isn’t it time every country had bee bus stops?
If there’s one thing that separates us humans from animals, it’s our creativity. No other creature on Earth can solve problems quite as creatively (or as bizarrely) as we can. These people saw unique problems and decided that a unique solution was the only way to rectify them.
Unnecessary, But Quite Welcome
Not every clever opportunity to take advantage of has to be for something that’s actually necessary. This toilet paper packaging is definitely not something that anyone actually needs, but it’s also something the world can enjoy simply because it’s cool and fun.
Nifty and Efficient
Some of these creative things on this list are aesthetic, or don’t really serve a practical purpose at any rate. However, this particular bout of creativity is both clever and useful, making it a very unique instance on this list. Someone deserves a raise for this stellar idea.
What’s weird is how simple it is in reality, yet no one has thought of it until now. Crazy how some ideas elude society for so long.
Dark Humor for the Win
As a divorce lawyer, one probably sees a lot of situations that aren’t so great. But, that’s all the more reason to try and make light of those situations, right? These clever business cards make it very obvious what the divorce lawyer does, in a fun way.
When you work in a thing like law, it pays to have a sense of humor to work with. This particular lawyer seems to know that pretty well.
Can You See the Joke?
Some forms of cleverness can more accurately be described as puns. This is definitely one of those moments, considering how on the nose it is. But hey, that doesn’t mean it isn’t funny, and it’s definitely still clever. At any rate, it would make this optometrist’s office pretty unique.
We’re a little curious as to how the poster made this, but unfortunately, he didn’t provide any information on that front, so we just have to guess.
Achieving More With Less
Designing a logo that is both simple yet advanced is not an easy thing to do. In fact, it takes a lot of careful planning and many design phases. Take this logo, for example — it’s simple on the surface, but when you think about it, there aren’t too many people that would have thought of this.
When it comes to clever design, sometimes less is more, so long as you find a way to use it to your advantage.
Why Didn’t I Think of That?
It’s often easy to say that anyone could have thought of something — and yet, for some reason many people never actually do. This is one such example of an idea that seems fairly straightforward, yet it took a pretty long time for anyone to think about it.
Really, this would have made our puzzle experience as children a whole lot easier. Or at the very least, much more convenient.
It’s the Small Things
Sometimes being clever is actually just a matter of making one little change to something. Whoever was in charge of this sign saw an opportunity to really elevate it from plain to extremely creative, and all it took was the addition of a single dot.
Good move, we have to say. It’s just the right amount of subtlety while still being on the nose, which is clever in and of itself.
We See What You Did There
Being clever doesn’t always have to be under the radar. Sometimes extremely on the nose things can be clever, as seen here. These tiles are located in the US Postal Museum, so it’s not hard to see what the designer was going for. Yeah, it’s on the nose, but it’s still pretty clever, all things considered.
Whether or not the designer was giggling to himself while making this happen is unclear, but we can definitely visualize it, and it’s pretty amusing.
Sweet Designs for Sweet Treats
The art of packaging is a lot more complicated than just sticking things in bags — at least if you want that art to be good. Whoever designed this packaging for cookies deserves a raise, because it’s truly clever and really creative, not to mention super cute.
Of course, we can’t help but think this would be more expensive than regular cardboard boxes, so maybe that’s why this kind of thing doesn’t happen very often.
It Speaks for Itself
The most clever advertisements know how to present their message in a way that lines up with the ideal they are trying to present. This is one such example of an advertisement, and we have to say, it might be one of the most creative ways we’ve seen this done.
It even does what they are suggesting you do, so it doesn’t feel as hypocritical as some other advertisements out there.
Straight to the Point
Who needs subtlety when you can just put the message right out there? As long as the message is done cleverly, it still fits on this list quite well. Besides, sometimes certain ideals need to be presented in a harsh manner for people to actually pay attention to it.
Aside from the message itself, this ad is very cleverly done, which is of course what makes it good enough to land on this list.
Almost Imperceptible Creativity
If you weren’t paying close attention, you may not notice the creativity on display here at Los Angeles International Airport. But, this is a good example of how nice subtlety can be when creating an aesthetic for people to enjoy. We bet some folks didn’t even notice.
Of course, it’d be a little sad if no one noticed the hard work you put into it, but the word usually spreads to the point that everyone will eventually know about it at some point.
A Great Way to Build Interest
What is there to say about this? The show being advertised is about a mirror, and the advertisement uses a mirror to express that. We’re not sure how high we can put it on the creativity scale, but it’s definitely higher than a regular billboard ad, and that’s something.
At the least, it’s definitely a good way to build some interest in a show, because a unique advertisement is more likely to draw attention.
Making Menial Life Fun
How clever is it to take advantage of everyday objects to make great art? We’ll leave that decision to the audience. For our part, we feel that this was a pretty clever idea, even if it only serves the purpose of amusing the people who pass through this hallway.
It kind of seems like something that would happen at a pediatrician’s office, or maybe even in the halls of a high school.
A Visual Dad Joke
Despite the general connotation that goes along with the word clever, sometimes things that are clever are also very corny. This is definitely one of those instances. Bike racks that look like bike locks? Well, it’s certainly interesting at the very least.
Did they do this to all of the bike racks, or just a few? Unfortunately, we don’t know if the entire city did or not.
Only at a Certain Angle
Now, here’s a hidden Easter Egg that confuses us. Does every Popeye’s do this? Do they have a planner who has decided that their logo should be hidden in the layout of their floor plan in every restaurant? The orange trash cans, napkin dispenser, and high-top table combine to form the restaurant logo.
Now, we’ll be inclined to look for this hidden logo in every Popeye’s we visit. Hopefully, we won’t look too strange to everyone else there while doing so.
Work With What You Got
As an artist, sometimes you work with a canvas. And other times, you work with the environment. In this case, an artist saw an opportunity to use the things in his environment as part of his painting, and the end result is a pretty cool addition to the neighborhood.
We just hope the people that live around there are as appreciative of the creativity and hard work as we are, because the artist deserves it.
Adding a Little Fun to Milk Cartons
Buying milk isn’t something people generally consider as something that needs to be fun, but there’s no reason it can’t be, right? In this case, someone decided to add a bit of cute feline aesthetic to their milk cartons, which is a fitting combination.
We’ve never heard of this brand, personally, but we would definitely consider buying it with such a cute motif up for grabs!
Cutest Tea Bag Ever
Do tea bags need to be cute? Not really, but is anyone going to complain if they are? Probably not. These tea bags are made to look like goldfish, an idea that is immensely cool and probably won a lot of applause at a board meeting somewhere. We understand why such applause would be necessary.
How many goldfish does it take to make a gallon of tea? Who knows, but it would probably look pretty funny.
A Captain Hook Classic
A little bit of good art in the right place can make things feel a lot more appealing and energetic. Sure, it’s just a drawing of Captain Hook, but it’s charming and makes clever use of the environment.
Whether or not this was officially asked for, there’s no denying that this particular bathroom stall has a whole lot of character now.
Simple Yet Amusing Brilliance
You don’t have to do something completely mind-blowing to be considered clever. These envelopes are in fact quite simple. However, it’s a creative simplicity that certainly makes them much more noticeable than your average piece of mail, that’s for sure!
These inventive envelopes were specifically created for a window cleaning company. With that, we can’t help but admit that if we ever needed this kind of service, we know who we’re calling.
Some Celebratory Cunning
A few years ago, the Saudi Arabian government finally allowed women to drive. Putting the politics aside, Ford put out an advertisement related to it that was extremely clever on their part, for reasons that are pretty obvious as soon as you look at it.
It’s not hard to see what they were going for here, and honestly, it’s pretty darn creative. We can’t help but wonder how the people in Saudi Arabia felt about it.
Full On Reversal
At the end of the day, this is just a logo that’s the same upside down as it is right-side up. But, the fact that the designers took the time to make that happen is pretty cool. After all, it does help set them apart from other logos out there.
While it probably isn’t that important, people will also never get the logo confused due to the position of the object — whatever it happens to be.
24 Hour Clever Placement
Designing a logo is not as easy as a lot of people think. Even something as simple as this logo requires someone clever to make ends meet. And make no mistake — it is pretty clever, as it gets the logo to essentially work for itself, which is always a good thing.
Why not, after all? It adds a nice bit of contrast and eliminates the need to throw it in yourself. Killing two birds with one stone, as they say.
Creativity With Backbone
We know we say this a lot, but we’re certain that someone got a raise for this really cool design idea. We’re not exactly sure what it’s for, but it looks like a patch for an aviation group. Needless to say, that group gets to have one cool patch compared to all of their brethren.
Maybe they had a fellow who was an artist and a pilot in the group? Or maybe they just hired a designed to do it. Who knows? In any case, this group wins at everything with the logo that they’re repping.
Homage to the Source
Creating a cool logo for an ale brand is tougher than people think because so many ideas have already been used. Honestly, this idea probably isn’t completely original, but it’s still a great example of a logo that uses many elements to create a clever image.
With the hops, field, and sky combined, it shows everything that goes into making a good pint of brew — or several gallons of it.
Accomplishing More With Less
If your logo is just some letters, you have to find a way to make things more interesting! Generally speaking, that involves making the letters look like some sort of relevant object, which these producers of kayaks have done quite nicely. As you can see, the C and D of their logo form to make a kayak themselves.
Also, they kind of look like eyes, which we imagine is also a pretty cool aesthetic to have on the front of the boats.
Fun for the Kids
Architectural design doesn’t get to be clever as often as some other forms of art, because they often have to follow some sort of rules. But, this daycare got a little creative with the front of their building, and we can imagine that it is well-liked by a number of people.
We can’t help but wonder if the pillars say Crayola on them somewhere. But, for branding reasons, the answer is probably no.
A Well-Hidden Design
Do you ever wonder if bar codes could be more creative? Probably not, because there isn’t much reason to make bar codes more creative than they are now. But hey, that doesn’t mean you can’t, right? Wouldn’t it be cool if bar codes were in the shape of the state the product was made in?
Of course, we imagine that could be an issue with some of the states that have more unique outlines. Texas, anyone?
A Picture Is Worth…
There’s a lot of logos on this list, but that’s because a cleverly designed logo is really worth appreciating! This one from SSG Food Market is especially noteworthy for the way it combines the letters of its brand to create a flower, as you can clearly see in this picture.
It’s just really creative and clever — and we can’t help but wonder how many people have actually noticed that the flower is made up of the SSG letters.
The Extra Mile
When it comes to packaging, we understand why companies want to use simple containers — they are cheaper to produce. However, there is something to be said about unique and interesting containers that draw attention to themselves. This is definitely one such container.
All things being equal, though, we’re not sure if this is an efficient shape for pouring liquid, even if it does look pretty neat.
A Timeless Classic
Yes, this is in fact the GameCube logo. But hey, it doesn’t get enough credit! You’d be surprised at how many people never even realized that the logo was a cube, forming a G, which led into another cube. It’s a pretty nifty logo overall, that deserves a bit more attention even if the console is old news.
Now, should we bother mentioning that the original PlayStation logo was comprised of a P and an S, with the latter forming a shadow?
The Future Is Now
Hold on, why aren’t these more common? A ruler with a built in pencil? That’s cool, creative, and efficient all at the same time! Why aren’t these in every Walmart? Maybe they just haven’t caught on yet — probably ahead of their time and all that.
Ten years from now, we expect these nifty accessories to be in the backpack of every student across the country. Mark our words!
Sleep Feeds Creativity
Creative isn’t exactly something most people associate with IKEA of all places, but we’ll give them credit where credit is due — this advertisement for pillows is pretty clever, and almost undoubtedly passed inspection at a board meeting immediately.
Now, if only someone would make pills that feel like pillows instead of little pebbles, that’d be a real miracle. Pharma companies, please get on that immediately! We’ll love it as much as this advertisement!
Meaningful Advertisement Design
You’d be surprised at just how powerful a message a good design can get across to people. This one, which is actually from Hong Kong, is immensely clever — a powerful reminder that things we may find easy are not universally so.
We’re not exactly sure how old this ad is, but does it really matter? Its message is relevant for all of time, and it’s still clever regardless of age.
All in the Name
If you can make a logo that says your name without even using actual text, you’ve done a good job. Case in point is this brand — “C-Side Tracks,” which you can discern the name of just by looking at their logo, even though there’s no text other than a lone “C.”
The good thing about logos is that they give people plenty of unique ways to express their creativity, and someone definitely did exactly that this time around.
Ideal for Recluses
We imagine that whoever made these curtains is hero to those of us who don’t agree with the sun entering our rooms uninvited. Lots of people like to keep their curtains closed, but when they have a nifty design on them, all the better. Granted, these curtains technically let the light in, but they do so in a cool way.
If the sunlight does have to get in, it should at least contribute to the overall aesthetic of your room, right?
The Smallest Details
It’s a really small detail, but clever all the same. As this Redditor quite clearly states, the icon of his clock app actually changes to match the time of day. It’s something that some people may not eve notice if they weren’t paying enough attention, but it is cool.
Now we’re going to be looking at our own phones to see if our clock apps happen to do the same thing. Chances are, though, probably not.
Creative Bar Codes
Apparently, the bar codes on products could actually be a lot more interesting if only companies wanted them to be. This one looks like a little forest, which is pretty cool and clever. It would be a different shopping experience if one could be surprised by all the different bar code designs out there.
But alas, that is not the world we live in. Darn, why aren’t corporations all over this? It sure seems like a good idea from our point of view.
The Best of Both Worlds
This is a vet clinic in Poland, which would explain why you don’t understand the language. But thankfully, you don’t need to read anything to understand how clever the sign is, which is pretty cool since it incorporates both a dog and a cat. It’s kind of what you’d expect from a vet but still.
Even a mere sign can be something neat if someone goes out of their way to design something cool, as proven here.
Kung Fu Panda
Whether or not you’ve seen Kung Fu Panda, it’s really hard to deny the fact that this film advertisement is pretty awesome. Before the film’s release, this ad was strategically placed at a bus stop, and we can only assume that it continuously caught the eye of anyone and everyone passing by.
After all, it’s not just some movie poster but rather, it incorporates the whole bus stop — which, in turn, creates a buzz. And more buzz means more viewers!
North, East, South, West
A Massachusetts-chartered stock savings bank, East Boston Savings Bank has been serving the greater Boston community since 1848. Now, just because this financial institution has almost 200 years of history doesn’t mean that it’s outdated or boring by any means.
Just take this design approach, for instance. Not only did East Boston Savings Bank make great use of its name but the compass, as well. And for this undeniable creativity, we tip our hats off to this specific branch.
A Pocket for My Biscuit
Okay, is this not one of the cutest and (sort of functional) mugs you’ve ever seen? Sure — the amount of tea or coffee you’re able to drink from it is pretty much cut in half, but the little biscuit pocket totally makes up for that loss!
Now, correct us if we’re wrong, but we think it’s safe to say that this mug is every Brit’s dream. After all, no one loves their tea and biscuits more than English people.
These Sheets Are a Life-Changer
Let’s be real — when it comes to putting sheets on the bed, we’ve all struggled at some point or another. And that’s okay; sometimes it’s just hard to tell what corner goes where. Luckily, sheets like this exist now.
Sheets with labels that indicate what part needs to go where on the mattress. Now, our lives just got a whole lot easier. The question is, where can we get these sheets from? We don’t really care how much they cost, just as long as they save us time.
Let’s be real, here — this is an extremely clever form of advertising. And while some may look at this couch and automatically find it insulting, it still caught their eye, didn’t it? That’s really the whole point of advertising, isn’t it?
Even if they decide not to buy any Nivea products at that moment, there’s no denying that this advertisement still has the ability to strike up an open dialogue between people. Of course, more conversation equals more buzz, which equals more customers.
Here we have yet another example of how creative you can actually get with barcodes. While there’s technically no reason to give barcodes a specific design, it certainly brings something special to the table.
Now, just because Pete and Gerry’s is an organic company doesn’t mean that the brand can’t have some fun of its own. Plus, it makes sense that the barcode is a farmhouse considering that the product it’s slapped on is a case of fresh, organic, and free-range eggs.
The Perfect Lake for Narcissus
Whether you guys agree or not, we think that this might be one of the most creative signs we’ve ever laid our eyes on. It’s located in Okefenokee Swamp Park — a National Wildlife Refuge or shallow wetland straddling the Georgia-Florida border.
Founded in 1946, the park covers nearly half a million acres. Call us crazy but when looking at Mirror Lake, we can’t help but think of Narcissus, the Greek god that fell in love with himself after seeing his reflection in a pool of water.
Little Bottle. Big Flavor.
There’s no denying that we’ve seen some creative and incredible brand advertisements in our day, but this is by far one of the best. Whether or not you like Tabasco, it’s hard to reject or simply ignore the very creativity basically radiating from this ad.
Sure; the ad itself might be very simple but it certainly says a whole lot, just like the slogan — ‘little bottle, big flavor.’ In fact, it causes so much heat that you may want to keep a fire extinguisher by you, ya know, just in case.
Not Your Typical Billboard
If you’ve never heard the name, Pilsner is a type of pale lager. It takes its name from the Czech city of Pilsen, where it was first produced in 1842. This particular so-called billboard is located in Victoria — the capital city of the Canadian province of British Columbia.
And while it may not look like much at first glance, the advertisement is actually pretty clever. Clearly, this brew is so tasty that it’ll literally make you implode. Well, we hope not but this billboard certainly caught our attention.
Top of the Line
If you don’t know what a lazy Susan is, well, it’s a turntable (rotating tray) placed on a table or countertop to aid in distributing food. And let us tell you, it’s a pretty great invention. But, what’s better than an ordinary table-top lazy Susan?
Why, a lazy Susan in your refrigerator, of course! That’s right — this kind of thing does exist and it’s an absolute life-changer. Gone are the days that you have to take everything out of the fridge just to reach that specific bottle in the back.
Making Life Easier
Some of the most clever things in the world are actually just simple things that make everyday life a bit easier. This is literally just marking on a stick of butter foil to let you know how many grams of butter you’re using — and yet, something this simple is not universal, which goes to show just how clever simple things can be.
Why isn’t everyone doing this yet? It sure would make it a bit easier to cook just about any recipe with butter, of which there are a lot.
Make Nature Work for You
OK, we aren’t going to pretend that this isn’t creepy, because it really is. And yet, it’s also very clever! It takes a real amount of creativity to imagine something like this, and it’s quite fitting for the subject at hand…
Still, super creepy. Great work, but super creepy. Why can’t anyone think of something like this, but with puppies or kittens? Then again, maybe that’d be unsettling in its own way.
Step Up to the Plate
Do you ever think about the work that goes into a magazine cover? It requires a lot more creativity and cleverness than one would think. Sure, this cover may not seem all that great — but when you think about it, how many people would have thought about making the plate look like the appropriate state?
Unfortunately, they won’t be able to do this again without it being unoriginal. But, at least they didn’t have to do one of the square states for this…
All About Placement
The book Dune is a legendary classic. But in this instance, we’re not talking about the book, we’re just talking about the rear cover of this particular copy of the book. No matter how the book is oriented, the back cover still says Dune on it, which is pretty clever design.
Does the front of the book have something similar on it? Probably not, since the Redditor didn’t mention anything about it.
I Shall Call it Mini-Me
Believe it or not, a lot of cars actually do this, and you probably just haven’t noticed. Yes, for many cars, the levers you use to adjust the car seat are shaped like a car seat, to signify which parts of the seat you are moving. It’s a small thing, but it’s a clever design feature that makes us smile.
Seriously, people should ask their friends how many of them were consciously aware of this. We promise, it’s a lower number than you’d think.
