A lot of Atlanta area families got a very welcome surprise recently thanks to the kindness of actor, writer, and filmmaker Tyler Perry. The multi-faceted performer took it upon himself to travel to a pair of Walmart stores in Atlanta with the objective of making the holiday season much less stressful for area families.
When he was there, he paid off all of the current layaways at both stores. The total was an astronomical $432,635, which Perry said was money well spent. The fortunate beneficiaries of Perry’s kindness only have to come in, pay the final penny of their layaways, and pick up their items.
Although Perry was hoping to do the good deed anonymously, word got out about what he had done, so he decided to go to Twitter with a video acknowledging the rumors.
“Merry Christmas to everybody!” Perry exclaimed in the video, a big smile on his face. “I know it’s a hard time, a lot of people are struggling, and I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this.”
Of course, the people who had their layaways paid off were beside themselves with gratitude. Among the happy responses that Perry got was from the Walmart Twitter page itself. The comment from the account read: “Anonymous or not, we hope you know that you just made Christmas for so many families. You went above and beyond. Thank you.”
What’s more, Perry’s kindness seems to have started something of a trend. Musician Kid Rock followed Perry’s lead, saying that he was inspired to do the same thing at a Nashville area Walmart. The rock star’s tab was about $81,000 for the kind gesture. We’ll have to see if more stars decide to continue this amazingly kind trend as the holidays continue their approach.
Light it Up
Who knows what things your significant other is keeping from you when it comes to obsessions? It could be shoes, it could be refrigerator magnets, or, in this person’s case, candles. But candles are useful, right?
Well yeah, they give you light and make the house smell good. But this poor guy had no idea that meant storing 15 boxes. Guess he should have paid closer attention when he was at her place.
Holding it In
There are certain things that we try not to do in front of our partners. Many people don’t like going to the bathroom in front of them. Some try not to brush their teeth or put on makeup with their partners looking on.
But one thing that is universal is that no one wants to fart in front of their partners. But when you start living together, that will need to change, or you will have to say away from certain foods, like beans.
All the Little Things
It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, as this poor guy found out. Not being around the person you love all the time allows you to keep some illusions in your mind going. For instance, your significant other hasn’t liked your posts…maybe they haven’t seen them.
This guy found out that that is not the case, and on top of that, his girl shed all over the place. That sucks!
No one wants to tell the one they love that they sometimes skip the shower. After all of the days that they don’t do anything, they really need to take that time to clean themselves like they have done a full-on intense workout.
But when your other half moves in, they will find out. So either let them in on the secret or get ready for some awkward conversations.
Eating out when you are at work can start adding up. It can be a significant drain on your funds, and so when you get the opportunity to eliminate that, it is yet another reason to rejoice. When you move in with your significant other, this could be one of the benefits.
This is especially true if your partner in crime loves to cook. If that is the case, you have just hit the jackpot and won’t have to worry about buying your lunch.
Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
You know you have reached true partnership when texts have to do with things like toilet seats. No longer do you worry about formalities; the texts are all about regular everyday tasks and things.
This is how things change when you move in together and should be something people are aware of. Not that this will be what texts are all about, but a majority will be of this nature, we are sure.
On the way to cementing a relationship into a long-standing relationship, you will need to combine your lives. After all, why spend money on two places when you spend every minute of the day together.
This couple seems to understand this and takes moving in as a very logical and fiscally responsible move in a relationship. Love is defined by many factors, so no need to judge their budget-minded take on love.
Art Imitating Life
One of the most controversial things in a household is the dishwasher. It seems strange, we know, but it is true. Everyone has their methods of loading a dishwasher, and for those that have OCD, having the washer loaded incorrectly could be a deal-breaker.
Instead of taking to the debate path, this woman has opted to go the art route. This might work, and for those that are into art, we would love to read that poem, but it may not be the way to go for all.
Learning New Things
You learn to do things through your parents and other close relationships. That includes what you use to wash your clothing. So when this guy moved in with his girl, he learned a very cool trick regarding laundry.
If you use this thing called softener, your clothes feel ten times better on your skin. This simple piece of education seems to have changed his life.
There is no hiding those habits or routines that you have curated when you now have someone else in your space. But at least with a roommate, you can keep some things to yourself. When, however, you move in with your significant other, that is not the case.
That means those things that you might be a little embarrassed about you might want to reconsider or just be prepared for ridicule.
Throughout our lives, we all find things that we hold on to. These become our go-to collectibles, and they can range from anything. For this young woman, she learned that her boyfriend loves him some good old Donald Duck.
Was this revelation a deal-breaker? We find it hard to believe that she didn’t notice the mugs and Disney paraphernalia around the house when they would hang out.
Using the Space
When you’re a single guy, you don’t tend to really pay attention to things like band-aids and cold medicines. When you need them, you simply pick them up and then use them until they’re gone. So that means some guy’s medicine cabinets are just taking up space.
But hey, good news for this guy, his lady has enough to fill the space. This makes him a winner! You don’t have to worry about not having what you need when you need it.
We hope this couple has enough room for relaxation time. Whatever we think about the amount of these three things they have, it seems to make them happy, so who can judge. But why so many plants?
That amount of plants needs a lot of space, so this must be one good-sized apartment. Otherwise, guests might think they are visiting a jungle sanctuary or a small gardening store!
Everyone needs their time, but when someone moves in, you have to set clear boundaries, otherwise, you have awkward moments like this one. His girl was just trying to be a little romantic in the morning, but that was his “crying time.”
If we were this girl, we might be a little worried about why he needs cry time. Maybe there is something you can do to help?
It’s On You, Right?
Streaming services are one of the things that become a topic of conversation. Whose will you use? Do you keep separate accounts? Different profiles? Who exactly is paying for that movie?
The truth of the matter is eloquently stated in this tweet. The person paying for the service/movie is the one that signs in first. So make sure you are prepared for that charge, and your budget is able to take it!
Your Team Is What!?
Some people take their devotion to sports teams pretty seriously. So one thing that those looking to move in together should discuss is team affiliations. By sitting down and having this very sensitive conversation, you may avoid serious repercussions.
If this couple had done that, maybe this guy wouldn’t feel like he had been lied to in such a hurtful way. No Red Sox fan could possibly live with a Yankee fan! It just won’t work…LOL!
Moving in together will inevitably mean a lot of boxes lying around. Now one big thing that might be interesting is if one of you is a person like this woman. You know, the one who lives out of boxes as long as it takes to need the stuff in them.
This could be a pretty big problem for those that are more motivated to get the house set up and start living like “normal” people.
Dress for the Occasion
Many guys find it difficult to find room in the closet when they move in with their ladies. After all, women have a lot more clothes to worry about, but this poor guy has a whole different battle to fight.
Though maybe he should have expected it when he saw the dog do three wardrobe changes when they hung out at her place. No, really, perhaps it’s time for an intervention?
There are always those that mean well and give you advice about moving in together. They often say that you will find things out and have to learn to compromise, but apparently, one thing that gets left out is about the bedroom.
When you have been sleeping alone, the addition of a new person could throw your sleep cycle off. So remember, one of the big purchases you might want to make is a bigger bed.
I’m Just Saying
You know, one of the hardest things to figure out is how you are going to tell your friends and family that you have taken the big plunge. You could do it one by one or make a clever little tweet to announce it to everyone.
Maybe like this guy did. It was a pretty creative way to let everyone know, and best of all, he can ignore the comments if he wants.
Over Or Under
There is one question that has been asked for centuries, and it is quite the controversial philosophical quandary… should the toilet paper be set up to roll over or under? This may be one of those things you should discuss before moving in.
This gentleman didn’t have that tough discussion, and now he is sitting there contemplating whether this was a smart decision. We are sure he is just joking, right?
When you decide to move in with your special person, there will be those that voice their opinion about whether it is appropriate. This is especially true if you haven’t been together for what these people deem a reasonable time period.
You can choose to shoot them down in many ways with anger, sadness, or a little humor like this woman did. Of course, some may feel her humor is a little stereotypical!
There are many reasons that people move in together. Of course, there is love, but there is also access to those special moments whenever you feel like it. On top of that, you get to save money and don’t have to live with someone you aren’t in it for the long haul with.
That is how this guy feels, and honestly, this should be the tagline for the book talking about things to understand about moving in together.
There are some platitudes that just get overplayed. This could be one of those eye-roll situations for some of us. Things like “live, laugh, love” could be something that drives your significant other crazy.
But for those that find these annoying, you have to compromise, and that is one of the things you learn to do when you move in together. So maybe this guy should just bite his tongue and remember he is in love.
No Down Payment
When two homes combine, each of the new cohabitants gets new furniture. The good part about that is that there is no money that needs to be exchanged; it is all about merging everything into one life.
That means that you get access to that super comfortable couch, and they are able to take advantage of that plush pillow top mattress. It seems like a win-win to move in together.
One of the things many people are attracted to their partner for is their sense of humor. But very few people appreciate a good pun. So maybe if that is your type of humor, you should wait until you have your partner reeled in.
Then they have no choice but to think it is funny or at least cute. This woman knew what she was doing for sure!
Working it Out
One thing we all have to stop worrying about when we move in together is things we can’t control. There are bodily functions that there will be no way to hide anymore.
Things like farts and such are fine examples of what we are talking about. There is no way you will be able to safely hold all your gas in, so let it go. Of course, do it in a polite way.
We’ve all left our glasses somewhere and struggled to find them when we needed them. Having a person in the house that can help you find them is a nice thing to have.
This is one of the big benefits of moving in together. But it is so small no one ever talks about this plus. Now you know, and we are sure you are excited!
Sometimes cute little moments turn into a funny convo between two people that live together. Things like national days and anniversaries can turn into a funny meme or even a fun thing to look back on.
When you move in together, you get moments like this. But one note, if you are going to talk about any holiday, make sure you have a gift idea or one already ready to deliver.
What Is the Magical Word
There are some things that no one tells you when you get into a serious relationship. One of these is the way to make up for anything you do wrong, is to bring your other half their favorite food. If you do this, living together will be much easier.
So, making sure that you always come home with the right thing to smooth the waters is definitely the way to go.
Many people love living on their own, but once you have somebody by your side, you quickly realize a whole slew of benefits. Things like someone to help you find your keys in the morning, or someone to turn the light off once you get comfy.
It is terrible when you get all comfortable and have to get up to turn that light off to go to bed. That is why having a partner is so nice – you don’t have to!
Change of Text!
When you are first starting out, your text chain looks very different. It is all cute little conversations about your plans and how much fun you had the other night. But once you have moved in together, the texts change drastically.
Suddenly you are texting things like “Don’t forget to pick up the toilet paper,” or “We are out of cheese could you stop by the store?”
I Can’t Take You Anywhere!
There are always inside jokes when you move in together that form from this closeness. Things that others might look at as crazy or simply not funny. Maybe punting lettuce is one of these for this couple.
We are sure that the boyfriend probably was torn between whether to be embarrassed or to laugh out loud. How would you react if your girlfriend did something like this, knowing you had to go home with her?
No Accounting for Taste
Sharing the chance to choose things for the home may be a struggle for some, but it is one of the major tenets of living together. This woman knows this and thought she was leaving a very safe choice in the hands of her man.
However, she was sorely mistaken and realized it as he showed her the seat he chose. She won’t make that mistake again.
Somebody’s Watching Me
When you are a couple, you often pick off each other’s plates. This gets even worse when you move in together. But that doesn’t mean when you go out there aren’t limits to this. So you may find moments like this happening.
Clearly, there is some major love for onion rings, and this person just wanted to draw that line in the sand, so there was no confusion or arguments later.
Depreciation of Value
Moving in together may not work for everyone. It may be something that causes strain and despair, and maybe why this woman feels the way she does about relationships. Pretty depressing but potentially part of the process.
Still, we hope this woman finds her happiness wherever it is and learns that not all relationships fit into this category. Maybe next time, she should take her time.
When you’re just dating, there are some things that are overlooked. Things like talking during a show or bothering the other person when they are engrossed in a binge-fest. But when you move in or have been together for a long time, that all changes.
Suddenly doing anything we talked about above is grounds for some severe consequences. That may include sleeping on the couch! People be warned!
You know it may be time to move in when you get calls from friends looking for your significant other. This only happens when you are together constantly and have been deemed a couple by both sides of the friend tree.
Be prepared, though. When you move in together, this will only worsen as time goes by. Not that this is a bad thing, but it is definitely something that you should understand.
Another thing that is a plus of moving in together is you have a built-in fall guy. That means if something is broken or doesn’t go right, you can always blame the other person. At least, that is how some people think.
It seems a little messed up to us, but it is something that could be a plus for some, as we have said. It could be fun to make someone else think they broke something as a prank, though.
Look at This
When you are a couple, you will be subjected to the whims of your partner. Hopefully, you have become accustomed to them through the build-up to moving in together. However, there are always things that pop up that could be annoying.
Things like waking you up in the middle of the night to see a super cute cat video. We just hope this guy likes cats; otherwise, they may have to have a conversation about this strange habit.
Once you move in together, the initial phase of food sharing has you sticking to what you know. The sharing of food and tasting of each other’s meals is well accepted. There is a step, though, that changes this all, and suddenly it turns into a deathmatch.
This couple has apparently reached this level as they play the first come, first served motto when it comes to things like the last piece of pizza.
I Know I Did Something
Once you move in together, there will come a time where there is an argument. Unlike before, there is nowhere to run. So the dynamic of that argument changes, and that may mean that you end up apologizing for things you had no way of causing.
Not sure that you will have to go back quite as far as this person does, but there will definitely be some extra apologizing necessary, especially if you are at fault.
Trying to make everyone feel at home means that there has to be some compromise. There are a lot of ways to do this, and this couple chose to split the decoration of the home up into rooms. But perhaps this might have been a mistake.
After all, we are sure that they were not expecting to walk into the living room and be stared down by this. One good thing, though, at least now he knows who his guy is crushing on.
You can learn a lot about what really matters when you actually do move in together. This could even be about things as simple as the room décor. Clearly, this is something that this young lady was learning rather quickly.
It may seem small, but an area rug can really change the vibe of a room, so we completely understand why this may be a huge topic of conversation. Though 70% seems pretty high!
Read it & Weep
When you choose someone, you inherit all their stuff, especially when you move in together. That means if they have enough books to outfit a small library, then you will have to put up with all that it brings with it.
But we would hope that you already know that this is part of the package. If you are not aware, then maybe you should hold off on the cohabitation.
